Počas II. svetovej vojny sa na svahoch najvyššieho vrchu Nízkych Tatier, na Ďumbieri, odohrávali boje medzi ustupujúcimi Nemcami a slovenskými partizánmi. Dnes si tam veselo poskakujú kamzíky a svište. Nič to však na jeho výške 2043, 4 m n. m. neuberá. Ba práve naopak, na severe sa javí ako obrovský vysokohorský masív až s 500 metrov vysokými stenami, piliermi a žliabmi do ľadovcových kotlov na konci Bystrej a Ludárovej doliny. Južné svahy sú pokryté žulovými poľami. I baníci mali v minulosti na tomto vrchu dostatok práce, ťažila sa železná ruda, antimonit, ba dokonca i zlato. Read on
