Leží v hlavnom hrebeni Veľkej Fatry a z jeho vrcholu je znamenitý kruhový výhľad. Svahy vrchu Ostredok sú tvorené z mráznickej vrstvy fatrika alebo inak, z krížňanských príkrovov, čo je zjednodušene povedané, tektonická jednotka Západných Karpát.
