Asphalt lake Strečno
Asphalt lake is situated near Nezbudská Luck, which is located in the village Varin. This is not a real black bubbling asphalt lake, but interesting turquoise lake, which was created when the flooded abandoned quarry asphalt, which was the only quarry for the extraction of natural asphalt in Europe. Visitors can see natural bitumen, which flows out of the rocks on the southwest wall of the quarry creates a striking black spots on the surface. The lake is also used by fishermen to fish for carp. Swimming in the lake is not permitted, because the preheated surface water is very cold groundwater and water swirls. Read on
